James Holmes is charged with murder in the Aurora, Colorado theater massacre. The prosecutors in this case will be seeking the death penalty. Mr. Holmes entered a packed movie theater on the night of July 20, 2012. He went on a shooting rampage killing 12 and injuring 70. His trial has been set back for February 2014.

July 16, 2015 - Verdict: GUILTY of 1st and 2nd-degree murder with extreme indifference on all 165 counts.
July 22, 2015 - Jury to return to decide James Holmes' fate.
August 3, 2015 - The Jury has found that the mitigating factors DO NOT outweigh the aggravating factors in this case. There's one more phase to the penalty phase of this case. Then we should find out James Holmes' fate. Note: Because the jury voted unanimously in the second phase, James Holmes will not automatically serve life in prison without the possibility of parole. He's very likely to get the death penalty. Stay tuned.
August 7, 2015 - Sentencing Verdict: AUTOMATIC LIFE W/O THE POSSIBILITY OF PAROLE. The jury could not decide unanimously whether James Holmes should get the death penalty or life. Therefore, Mr. Holmes will automatically get life without the possibility of parole. The jury was released from jury duty. Now Mr. Holmes' fate lies in the hands of the judge.
August 24-26, 2015 - The sentencing hearing will begin, and the judge will formally sentence Mr. Holmes to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Keep it here.
August 26, 2015 - Official Sentence Handed Down by Judge Carlos A. Samour: LIFE WITHOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF PAROLE - to be served consecutively.
